How we started ...

In 2011 we opened the doors of Chai, our family run deli and tearoom, for the first time. Located in Mumbles, nestled between the city of Swansea and the beautiful Gower peninsular, Chai set out to serve food and drink inspired by our love of flavours found throughout the globe. With inspiration from Gower, the Mediterranean and far beyond, resident chef Luke Rees has developed and evolved an interesting menu with many individual flourishes adapted from his 18 years experience in the catering industry. Luke is joined in the kitchen by his wife Rebecca who creates the indulgent array of cakes and other sweet treats.

Our idea ...

Having attended many weddings, birthdays and business events over the past few years and eating countless sandwiches and chicken drumsticks we thought our handcrafted food could offer something different. We recognised many of our existing dishes would adapt well to a buffet style service with a range of hot and cold savoury items as well as many sweet delights. Influenced by our personal love of finger food and tapas style eating and Luke's desire to experiment we believe we have created an exciting menu with options that offer a fresh alternative whilst remaining competitively priced. (different doesn`t have to mean more expensive!)

Where we want to go ...

We currently offer our services to Swansea and its surrounding area but we wish to expand beyond this soon. Our food is based on global influences but we believe we can create large parts of our menu with produce found closer to home. We aim to increase the amount of locally sourced, seasonal produce we use in our cooking, celebrating the rich resources we have on our doorstep. By embracing a local network we hope to increase our future sustainability and reduce our potential carbon footprint. To this end we also aim to provide 100% recyclable material to present our food.
